Hi LoveA&J! We're slowly getting the edited shows up again (mostly at 128 kps) but I'm not sure when the Rapidshare files will be replaced as full shows take much longer.

I'll let you know when we get to December 08.

I'm afraid I've ground to a bit of a halt with re-upping the old shows because I wanted to concentrate on re-housing the files for my nugget blog but I'll get back to it eventually.

In the meantime, I've made a very rushed version of Adam's Bowie show wherein I have just removed the news and trails, but not very neatly. The levels are all wrong for the first few seconds but I'm hoping someone else will make a better job of it than I can.

2013.03.31 - Adam Buxton on David Bowie [Full Show]
Adam may put an edited version of this show on Soundcloud.

Archive.org's embed player isn't great -- wish they looked more like Soundcloud. The play button is tiny and not as easy to drag and drop to a certain point in the file. I also like the fact you can add comments to Soundcloud, and curate playlists.

What made you choose Archive.org over Soundcloud for your Boggins sound nuggets? (and would you consider switching :) ?)

Primarily because there were over 600 files and unless I've missed a trick in Soundcloud (which I did consider among others), Archive's filing system is much better to do in a way that I can locate quickly. I think I'd have to use a tag cloud instead of actually filing things with Soundcloud.

Soundcloud is good as an embedder but the players are so big. I think the smaller embeds look much neater when there are multiples. Soundcloud loads more quickly than Archive but the user dashboard is more cumbersome if you have a large number of files. It's much quicker to trawl through .....although Archive looks like it hasn't been updated since Windows 2000! I seem to remember you suggested I use Archive just after I'd started to do so

Annoyingly, the Posterous system was perfect. They loaded quickly and were simple to play but they had no filing system at all. It's because I've had to re-up them retrospectively that changed my needs. I don't have the time to change to Soundcloud and I'm not convinced anyone would want to make comments. Soundcloud has it's uses and I think it's perfect for originators but I don't have enough traffic to warrant all the extra effort. I've only scratched the surface of re-linking them into the posts. I've done the Podcast Intro Songs, the Bowie stuff and from 2009 until about April 2010 and some random other ones :(

I realise it's too late now :) maybe we could have a collaborative effort between a few forum members to create a joint Soundcloud account running alongside the Archive files?

I'm confused now. I was answering you in relation the the nuggets I embed over on my blog but if you're talking about the files used on this thread, I think there's even less reason to use Soundcloud. I was really happy using 4Shared but I'm almost up to my free storage limit which is why I continued with Archive as it has no limits

With Archive, I can put a link here that you can right click to download directly. If you mean to start embedding in that thread it will be much lumpier to manage the code and there's a limit to the amount of characters in each post which is why I had to split them last year, for which Unicorn fortunately made provision when he started the thread.

I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. As I say, I like the neatness of Archive and simple filing method.

If you think it's good to have an option on Soundcloud and someone is willing to do it then I'm cool but let me know so I don't bother putting anymore of the edits on Archive. It too much work to be doubling up. I think a totally new thread should be started that only uploaders can post to and if you're going to embed the Soundcloud player you'll probably want a new post for each of the so-called 'Series' so that it doesn't get too cumbersome.

In the meantime, Adam has put his Bowie show on his Soundcloud until such time as he's asked to take it down.

Check the picture !

I guess I was talking about the sound nuggets blog primarily yes -- but I suppose it doesn't really matter whether it's Soundcloud or Archive. I think people probably would comment on them if it was in Soundcloud, and it's nice to see stats/playcounts etc.

I'm building up the main a+j.com site offline at the moment. The design is going to change dramatically from what the front page looks like in a few days/couple of weeks. I spent the last two nights working straight through til morning on it - although I haven't go very far :). The WordPress theme I'm building I will probably end up using on my other sites too.

For the embeds of the full shows I was thinking of creating a page for each on the main site. I'm not a huge fan of the Archive embeds but I take my hat off to all the people who have spent so long capturing, editing, organizing and uploading them. It would be good if we could double up but I realise that probably isn't going to happen. I think you mentioned the main benefit - being able to right-click to grab them off Archive.

I'm going to try and listen back to all the shows and make some shownotes/tracklists. I did start to try and transcribe the shows but it took me forever to do one hour of the 1st Shaun Keaveney show so I've sacked that idea off.

ps. I think I can adjust the character limit per post in the admin area (?)

Get some sleep!! :D

People rarely leave comments on my blogs at all and I do have the stats on each post so I can tell which nuggets were the popular ones. That's all I need.

It's different with entire shows because people might want to comment on a particular section so I take your point with them. I just wish there was a better filing system within Soundcloud.....unless you can teach me! It also makes sense if you want to embed them onto your blog/main site like that. You can make a proper directory etc. It'll be cool. Perhaps someone with fibre optic broadband and a librarian's mind can help.

Just to be clear, the main benefit of Archive for the user is a right click download but the benefit for the upper and/or administrator is the ability to label and file in groups. Reinstating my nuggets would have been far too daunting a task without that capability.....it was daunting enough anyway!

I'm looking forward to seeing the new design but please don't try to transcribe the shows, you'll never sleep again!

My nuggets actually started because I wanted to summarise each show and I thought I'd clip them while I was doing it. Then they left us so I started uploading them each day until they came back, simply because I had the store and it amused me to write some waffle. The title of each sound file sort of summarises each show and they're all dated in folders. That said, I only did about 18 months worth and then started flitting around....still labelling them but not always doing entire shows in sequence. Adam would be very distressed!

A lot of the tracklists are still on the BBC site but there are great big gaps, as you know.
